Here are some upcoming events that are on our radar:
- Nonhuman Teachers, a new nonprofit “dedicated to supporting new forms of ecological storytelling at a time when it feels like the world is ending” has recently sprung up in association with the folks at Cactus Store and has been hosting a monthly salon-style series of events, titled ‘HORT/CULTURE,’ presented by Nine Orchard. The August installment happens this Wednesday, August 23, at 7:00pm and features Mary Lattimore and Cecilia Vicuña, titans of their respective fields, in “an evening of ecstatic beauty.” An afterparty will follow at the Cactus Store NYC bamboo garden (5 Essex).
- “Not Your Daddy’s Issue,” a solo exhibition featuring artwork by mixed media artist Tali Rose Krupkin, opens on Thursday, August, 24 at 6pm, at Orchard Street Paint Supply. Krupkin creates artwork by transforming upcycled materials into “analog collages,” utilizing material from media like Playboy magazines from the 1960s-90s, in order to challenge societal norms.
- Nuyorican Poets Cafe hosts its 10th Annual Block Party on Saturday, August 26th from 12pm – 5pm on E. 3rd Street between Ave. B and C. The afternoon promises live DJ sets, open mic poetry slams, food, games and fun for the whole family.
- Shin Haus hosts a solo exhibition by “the talented and versatile artist Adam Himebauch.” Pretty Paintings by a Pretty Painter, showcasing new work, opens on August 30th at 5:30 pm.
