Our friends at the Lower East Side Film Festival have another free and fun film screening coming up at Tompkins Square Park on Wednesday, August 19th at 8:00pm. The ‘MOVIES IN THE PARK’ summer series under the stars continues with the Academy-Award nominated BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, with a special introduction from Producer Michael Gottwald.
Directed by Benh Zeitlin, and shot entirely on 16mm film, this film took home the Grand Jury prize at Sundance Film Festival where it premiered, as well as the Caméra d’Or award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Dwight Henry. (93 mins. Rated PG-13)
The community supported event includes free pizza from Pops, free shaved ice from Titi’s and free popcorn from Village East Cinema to boot (while supplies last). Chairs are first come first served, but they also provide blankets and there are almost always some good seats in the benches along the back of the bandshell.
