Construction crews will be back on the job Monday at East River Park, resuming the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project after an appeals court lifted a temporary restraining order.
Fencing has gone up in the park, including along the pathway leading from the the NYC Ferry dock to Corlears Hook Park. There’s also signage explaining that:
–The Delancey Street Bridge and sections of East River Park below Stanton Street will be closed beginning Monday. Portions of the park above Stanton Street can be accessed via East Houston Street or the bridges on East 6th or East 10th streets. The amphitheater will be closed as well as the tennis courts and athletic fields.
–The East River Park greenway between Montgomery Street and East 10th Street will be closed.
More information is available on the city’s project page.
On Tuesday, the Appellate Division, First Department upheld a lower court’s decision to dismiss a lawsuit from local activists, coming to the conclusion that the city did not require approval from the state to move forward with the East River Park reconstruction plan.
The activists are not giving up, however. They are promising to protest Monday morning and are anticipating more legal actions.
