Here are some upcoming events that are on our radar:

  • James Fuentes presents Elsa Rensaa’s paintings at 55 Delancey St., with a reception on Wednesday, March 20, from 6p-8p. Presented in two parts, Out of the Wilderness and Into the Blue marked Rensaa’s first solo exhibitions on the West coast as well as lower Manhattan, where she has lived and worked with photographer Clayton Patterson since 1979.
  • City Lore and Artists Alliance Inc. bring a special (free) screening of the Blowback Productions documentary It’s Basic to Anthology Film Archives on Thursday, March 21st at 6:30pm. The feature-length documentary spotlights pilot Guaranteed Income programs launched in five U.S. cities, which tested the effects of giving everyday people an extra $500 to $1000 per month, with no strings attached.
  • DCTV screens the NY Theatrical Premiere of STRIPPED FOR PARTS: AMERICAN JOURNALISM ON THE BRINK Directed by Rick Goldsmith on Tues., March 26 at 7:00pm and Weds., March 27th at 5:30, followed by in-person Q&A’s with the filmmaker. “Who will control the future of America’s news ecosystem: Wall Street billionaires concerned only with profit, or those who see journalism as an essential public service, the lifeblood of our democracy?”
  • HORT/CULTURE returns to the LES for their 2024 Salon Series. Author Susan Orlean and filmmaker/surfer/inventor George Greenough will be featured on Sunday, April 7th, in the West Room of Nine Orchard during an early evening of drinks and discussion around Susan’s writings about plants, animals, and the Homo sapiens who love them. Orlean will be joined by New Yorker staff writer Naomi Fry.
