Lower East Side Arts & Culture Weekly Roundup

Must Read

Here are some upcoming events that are on our radar:

  • There’s still time to catch the Veselka movie, “Veselka: The Rainbow on the Corner at the Center of the World,” from Writer/Director Michael Fiore. It’s screening at Village East Cinema as a limited release but it’s been extended for a second time through the end of next week (March 14) thanks to popular demand. The story of the beloved Ukrainian restaurant @veselkanyc in the East Village is about family history, neighborhood history and their history of serving as a place of refuge for generations of Ukrainian immigrants and refugees. We spoke to the filmmakers and owners for the upcoming episode of The Lo-Down Culture Cast.
  • A fun video installation by filmmaker/artist Kao Cheng Kai is opening in the store front window at the Electronic Service Center at 47 Canal Street this Friday, March 8th at 6pm. Inspired by the famous spoken word/song ”The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” written by Gil Scott-Heron, Kao Cheng Kai is using the storefront to “showcase a blandly touched literature, neatly designed text video, which contains his sarcastic but serious questions that he is about to ask the world.”
  • Joe’s Pub is spotlighting women’s voices this month in tribute to Women’s History Month. One of those voices is Aoife Scott, an acclaimed folk singer and songwriter hailing from Dublin, Ireland, who is performing on Monday, March 11th at 7:00pm.
