Must Read

Here are some suggestions for upcoming events that are on our radar:

  • Toast a new show by Concrete Temple Theater as it kicks off Ernie’s Secret Life, an “episodic odyssey, fusing ever-changing puppetry stagecraft with humor, music, and a raw understanding of our profound collective reality,” on Monday, January 8th at 7pm at Dixon Place.
  • Tune in on Thursday, January 11th at 6pm (on Zoom) for a new installment of the Museum at Eldridge’s Cinema Chats series featuring chief film critic for The New York Times, Manohla Dargis, and moderator Lucy Shahar in a discussion of the film Maestro, starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan.
  • Catch Honeycrush, the solo project of New York singer-songwriter and poet Alexandra Antonopoulos, at Rockwood Music Hall on Thursday, January 11th at 8pm. Her debut EP Milk Teeth – a blurring of alternative, indie rock, and folk – was released in October 2023 and selected for Bandcamp’s New & Notable highlight, described as “drifting dreampop and snarling grunge, with potent vocals wrapped in gauzy textures one minute, surrounded by jagged riffs the next.”
  • Enjoy a night of cabaret at Pangea on Friday, January 12th at 9:30pm with VKB Band, also known as “Vicki Kristina Barcelona,” a trio comprised of Rachelle Garniez, Amanda Homi and Mamie Minch, they merge their individual brands of magic to bedazzle audiences with renditions of the songs of Tom Waits.
  • Get tickets now for Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra at Joe’s Pub (photo above) on Thursday, January 25th and Friday, January 26th at 7p. The band is performing two pre-release shows featuring music from their new album, Did You Do The Thing We Talked About? Lipton’s band has been together for almost two decades, offering up an “incomparable brand of jazz/folk/alternative nosh with a chewy singer-songwriter center,” along with quirky, original musicals previously commissioned by Joe’s Pub.
