Here are some suggestions for upcoming events that are on our radar:
- Check out Fire Through Dry Grass, (photo above) a NY Premiere or the Best Feature Documentary Jury Award winner at BlackStar Film Festival 2023 screening at DCTV. The story documents, in real-time, the devastation experienced by residents of a NYC nursing home during the coronavirus pandemic. Co-Directors Alexis Neophytides and Andres “Jay” Molina take viewers inside Coler, on Roosevelt Island, where Jay lives with his fellow Reality Poets, a group of mostly gun violence survivors.
- Take the kids to see My Magical Colombian Bus/Mi chivita mágica, a “captivating musical experience” that takes the audience on a journey through the vibrant culture and history of Colombia, at Teatro SEA, a premiere Latino theater for young audiences at The Clemente.
- Visit the opening reception of the group photo exhibition, Uprooted! at the Loisaida Center (710 East 9th Street, New York, NY 10009) on Thursday, October 5th at 6pm. Uprooted explores the disconnect immigrants, migrants and the children of immigrants experience in the multitude of spaces and cultures they occupy.
- Participate in a Seed to Plant event on Friday, October 6, from 6 – 8pm and learn how to start your own seedlings in this no-experience-necessary community workshop led by members of the Lower East Side Cactus and Succulent Society
