Several high profile issues will be covered at tonight’s meeting of Community Board 3’s transportation committee.
First off, organizers of the NYC Half Marathon will be outlining their plans for the March 18 race, which will for the first time be flowing through the Lower East Side. Members of Community Board 3 and other local activists aren’t too happy about the meager community outreach that took place in advance of the race. Numerous street closures are planned on Sunday.
Committee members will also be talking about the transportation impacts of Essex Crossing, the huge development project opening this year. They will continue a discussion about dealing with the impact of the looming L Train shutdown. And the committee will consider a proposal to add street lights on Rivington Street near Suffolk Street to mitigate crime in the area.
The transportation committee meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. at 133 Pitt St.,
