Members of the Lower East Side community gathered in front of a synagogue on East Broadway today to deliver a message of unity and resolve. The hastily arranged event followed the discovery on Thursday of hateful markings on the wall of the First Romanian American  Congregation/Beth Hachasidim DePolen. The NYPD’s hate crimes task force is investigating the incident and searching for the culprit or culprits.

Community leaders painted over the markings, which read, “KKK” and “F—.” We will have a full report tomorrow morning on this afternoon’s event.
