The Alfred E. Smith Houses will be seeing a security upgrade thanks to $450,000 in state funding. Last week, State Sen. Daniel Squadron led a meeting at the 12-building NYCHA complex to discuss the installation of new rooftop cameras. He was responsible for securing a grant in Albany for the project.
When the installation is complete, there will be 24 new cameras, integrated in the housing development’s larger security system. In 2013, City Council funding allowed for the installation of 78 cameras at the Smith Houses. Security has been a longtime concern of residents there.
In May, Squadron announced a similar security upgrade at the Baruch Addition, another NYCHA complex.
