A little excitement outside 49 Clinton St. this afternoon after an awning caught on fire.
Onlookers gathered across the street from the storefront formerly occupied by a restaurant known as Kupersmith. People working at local businesses came to the rescue with buckets of water, a fire extinguisher and. finally, a hose pulled up from the basement of the building. Fire crews arrived on the scene and were beginning to investigate. Neighbors speculated that someone probably threw something, such as a cigarette, from an open window or the fire escape. Earlier this year, Community Board 3 signed off on a liquor license for a new food-related business at 49 Clinton going by the name of “The Taco Project.”
