More details tonight on this morning’s fire at 83 Henry Street, in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge. Firefighters extinguished a minor blaze shortly after 11 a.m., in a first floor apartment. But in the aftermath of the fire they discovered that both victims had bullet wounds to the head.
“We went in, we extinguished what was relatively a minor fire involving a mattress and some floor boards,” Commander James Esposito told WCBS Radio. “We pulled out what we thought were two people overcome by smoke but it turned out they probably sustained some type of gunshot wound or wounds.”
The victims were Asian women in their 40’s or 50’s. There were two fires set in the apartment — one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom.
