News and notes that caught our eye in the past week:

–A $24 million city-funded renovation of the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe will create an additional theater, a revamped lobby and dressing rooms and classroom space to expand the beloved art institution’s capacity and programs. [Gothamist]

–About 56,000 New Yorkers participated in early voting, which ended Saturday. Election Day is Tuesday in the state’s presidential primary. Find your polling site here.

–The Rent Guidelines Board kicks off the annual process to decide on rent increases for rent regulated apartments. The latest report from the board shows “a surge in landlord income” in Manhattan. [The City]

–There’s been a lot of talk about a series of attacks, recounted on TikTok, in which women have been punched in apparent random incidents on the street. One of the incidents happened on Delancey Street. In some of the attacks, arrests have been made, and, “…It’s not yet clear if any of the women’s cases are connected…” [The Cut]

–Eva’s Kitchen is the latest venture to give 359 Grand St. a try. The space was most recently occupied by “Best Chicken.” The “coming soon” sign on the window promises, “a fantastic all-day cafe serving delicious comfort food along with a terrific coffee bar.” [Instagram]
