Here are a few suggestions for upcoming events to check out in the neighborhood:

  • Celebrate 50 years of poetry with The OGs of Poetry, Jesús Papoleto Meléndez (one of the Original Nuyorican Poets) Abiodun Oyewole (one of The Last Poets) at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe on Thursday, April 27th at 5:30pm. There will be poetry performances, readings, a book signing and an excerpt from the forthcoming feature documentary ‘ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE FIRE ESCAPE’ (2023) by vagabond.
  • There’s a new comedy showcase launching this Friday, April 28th, at 8:30pm in the PUBLIC hotel’s new venue, ArtSpace (215 Chrystie St.). CHERRY comedy night will be hosted by Chloe Trost (Adult Swim) and Moss Perricone (Comedy Central). The first show will be headlined by Saturday Night Live’s Please Don’t Destroy. Asha Ward (Saturday Night Live), Joyelle Nicole Johnson (Peacock) and DJ Jeremy Elder (SMOSH) will also be kicking off the comedy series.
  • Get fly with the Lower East Side Film Festival as they celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Dazed and Confused at Village East Cinema on Friday, May 5th at 9pm. In honor of NYC’s first legal marijuana summer, comedians Phoebe Robinson (HBO’s 2 Dope QueensEverything’s Trash), Jordan Carlos (The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, Adulting podcast) and Donwill (The Almanac of Rap), will host the screening with live commentary plus a virtual introduction by director Richard Linklater.
