If you spend any time on lower Orchard Street, you almost certainly know Danny Coffey. A building super and neighborhood fixture, he’s beloved by locals, who sometimes refer to him as the “Mayor of Orchard Street.” On Thursday evening, Danny suffered a stroke and is hospitalized. Now he could use some financial assistance.

Here’s what local business owner Ryan Chadwick (of Grey Lady) wrote on a GoFundMe:

If there’s one thing everyone knows about Danny, he’s a tough SOB. A staple of of Orchard Street… Danny is always there to greet you with a smile and is the first to lend a helping hand. Many in this community have received help from Danny, and now it’s our time to help him. Your donations will go directly to Danny helping with Medical + Recovery Costs.

As of this morning, more than $6,000 had been raised — with a goal of collecting $30,000. Here’s the link if you’re interested in helping.
