A 50-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured when she was struck by a dump truck at Stanton and Ridge streets last night.
It happened at about 10:15 p.m. According to the Daily News, the “Dump Masters” 10-wheeler was going east on Stanton Street. The driver made a right turn onto Ridge and hit the bicyclist.
The victim, a registered nurse, may lose a leg due to her injuries, sources told the News. The front wheels of the truck ran over her body. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
One witness who tried to help is a medical student visiting New York from Texas. Sam Ahn said, “The truck actually ran over her… The driver’s side wheels went over both her legs. Her left leg was decimated. She was conscious and talking. I did the best I could with the medical training I have. I kept her calm and talking.”
Police believe the victim might have been going the wrong way on Ridge, a one way street. The truck driver, a 45-year-old man, was taken into custody and charged with driving on a suspended license.
