A fire broke out earlier this evening at 190 Bowery, the former Germania Bank Building.
Witnesses heard an explosion around 7:30 p.m. before flames began shooting from the roof of the 1898 city landmark. Firefighters responded quickly and extinguished the flames in about an hour. There were no injuries.
190 Bowery is owned by Aby Rosen of RFR Realty. He purchased it in 2015 from longtime owner Jay Maisel for $55 million. The property has been undergoing an extensive renovation.
Social media is filled tonight with photos and video from the fire.
