You’ve probably noticed that St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Grand Street has been undergoing a major renovation project. The most obvious repairs are taking place on the exterior of the building; the roof was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. But a lot is happening inside, too.
During the past few months, workers have transformed the garden-level Grand Hall, stripping the space down to reveal beautiful old stone work, installing new lighting and making other improvements. The 9,000 sq. ft. space has always been used for church functions. In the future, it will also be available for rent by outside groups.
On Saturday, Father Andrew O’Connor s inviting the community to the Grand Hall for an informal get-together. It will start at around 6 p.m. (following the 5 p.m. Mass) and continue until around 7:30. If you’d like to stop by, the church is located at 440 Grand St., just to the east of Attorney Street. Enter the hall on the west side of the church.
