Here’s what’s on our radar today:

–Lower East Side Assemblyman Sheldon Silver’s federal corruption trial begins at 10 a.m. The former speaker is accused of abusing his influential position, pocketing $4 million in illegitimate legal fees. The trial takes place inside the Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse at 40 Foley Square. Jury selection gets underway this morning, followed by opening statements, which could happen as early as tomorrow.

–At 10 a.m., the NYC Community Garden Coalition officially announces that it is the recipient of a $2 million resiliency grant from New York State. The money will be used for a storm water capture study within 47 gardens on the Lower East Side. The press event takes place in La Plaza Cultural Community Garden, 9th Street and Avenue C. The Lo-Down first reported about the grant last week.

–At 6 p.m., author Ada Calhoun appears in the Great Hall at Cooper Union to discuss her new book, St. Marks Is Dead: The Many Lives of America’s Hippest Street. 7 East 7th St., free.

–At 8 p.m., Nashville-based singer-songwriter Nikki Lane takes the stage at the Bowery Ballroom. 6 Delancey St., $15.
