Cops have put out a “missing child alert” for a 10-year-old girl who was taken by her non-custodial mother from a Lower East Side school yesterday.
Police say Celine Melanie Hicks was last seen at Castle Middle School, 220 Henry St., at about 1 p.m. They believe she was picked up by her mother. Jacqueline Hendricks, who does not have custody of the girl.
Hicks is 5’4″ tall and weighs 120 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Yesterday she was wearing a yellow school shirt with “Castle Middle School” written on the front. Hendricks could be driving a 1993 white Chevrolet Lumina with New Mexico registration #NGG506.
If you have any information about their whereabouts, call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
UPDATE 3:04 p.m. Police report that Hicks was found safe and her mother has been taken into custody. According to Channel 7, she has been in the care of an aunt and uncle since she was 2-years-old. The parents had visitation rights, but recently the aunt filed an order of protection against the mother. On Sept. 9, a court issued a temporary restraining order, meaning that neither parent could have contact with their child. The school is investigating what happened yesterday.
