Three Schools Relocated After Fire at 145 Stanton St.

This morning, students and teachers of three schools located at 145 Stanton St. are being relocated. The schools impacted are: Marta Valle High School, the Lower East Side Preparatory High School and the School for Global Leaders. The reason? A fire that broke out around mdnight last night on an upper floor of the Stanton Street building. Thanks to Zack Sheppard, who alerted us to this photo on his Instagram feed.  Here are the advisories from Notify NYC:

Notify NYC – School Relocation
Notification issued 6/19/15 at 9:40 AM. This is an update to a previously issued notification. Due to a building condition, staff and students of Lower East Side Preparatory High School, located at 145 Stanton Street in Manhattan, have been relocated to Cascades High School, located at 198 Forsyth Street in Manhattan. Dismissal will take place at Cascades High School.

Notify NYC – School Relocation
Notification issued 6/19/15 at 8:15 AM. Due to a building condition, staff and students of Marta Valle High School, the Lower East Side Preparatory High School, and the School for Global Leaders, located at 145 Stanton Street in Manhattan, will be relocated to the following schools and remain there for the day: – Marta Valle High School will relocate to Cascades High School, located at 198 Forsyth Street – Lower East Side Preparatory High School will relocate to Murry Bergtraum High School, located at 411 Pearl Street – School for Global Leaders will relocate to P.S. 20, located at 166 Essex Street.

We’re checking with the Department of Education and the fire department for more info.

  1. This is where there was a Civil Service exam last week. DCAS had people waiting in the hot sun for 2 hours. good times. Now there will be another exam this weekend all around the city and what kind of fly by night operation will Civil Service plan since this particular school had no ac, was not handicap accessible.

  2. This is bullshit. Totally handicapped accessible and all the rooms are air conditioned. You people come in, write on the desks, leave a message and take things that don’t belong to you. Clean up your act and flush the toilet.

  3. What a complete lie. I’m a student at this highschool, it is handicap accessible theres a ramp & a working elevator. ALL rooms have a working A/C except for one. You guys leave a god damn mess, everytime you guys use our classrooms.
