Essex Street Market 1939

All month long, the Essex Street Market has been celebrating its 75th anniversary. But the big event is still to come. Tomorrow from noon to 5 p.m., there will be a festive block party on Essex Street between Delancey and Rivington streets.

Chefs from popular local restaurants Cafe Katja, Spur Tree and An Choi will be grilling. There will be a big birthday cake, plus DJs, live music, raffles, giveaways and games. In a nod to the market’s origins, pushcarts will be lined up, offering products from Essex Street vendors.  There’s a speaking program at 2 p.m., featuring Kyle Kimball, head of the NYC Economic Development Corp.; Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer; City Council member Margaret Chin and other officials.

Participating merchants include:

  • Lower East Side Girls Club
  • Luca and Bosco
  • Nordic Preserves
  • Porto Rico Importing
  • Rainbo’s Fish & Tra la la Juice Bar
  • Roni-Sue’s Chocolates
  • Saxelby Cheesemongers
  • Ni Japanese Delicacies
  • Pain D’Avignon
  • Viva Fruits and Vegetables
  • Davidovich Bakery
  • Shopsin’s
  • Cuchifritos Gallery and Project Space

During the month, the Lower East Side BID has been running a sponsored series profiling all of the vendors. Click here to have a look.
