You may have noticed this empty stall at the Essex Street Market, on the south end, near Ni Japanese Delicacies. It was given up a few months ago by Batista Grocery. By early next month, it will be looking a whole lot more colorful.
This is because Bill Frazer, who runs Essex Flowers on Grand Street, is opening a fresh-cut flower stand in the space. This afternoon, Frazer told us he’s hoping to be up an running in the next couple of weeks. The existing shop, at 365 Grand St., mostly serves corporate clients and handles special event orders. Frazer said he had a desire for a purely retail outlet.
A flower stall is something shoppers have always wanted. The market manager, Lisa Thompson, canvased the neighborhood, to find the right vendor. The Essex Street Market is, of course, moving across to the south side of Delancey Street in a few years, when the first phase of the Essex Crossing development opens. Frazer said he’s looking forward to being part of the new facility.
