Last week, we reported that the owners of the historic Jarmulowsky Bank building have decided to restore the signature dome, which was removed from the top of the landmark in 1990. Now there’s a full set of drawings available on Community Board 3’s web site in advance of a meeting of the the landmarks subcommittee on Thursday.  The Jarmulowsky is being transformed into a boutique hotel.
The documents detail the initial steps to replicate the spire, using a 1912 drawing from the building’s architects and photos from the New York Municipal Archives. The plans also include alterations to the original restoration proposal, including a new marquee on Orchard Street, a raised roof deck and doorways leading from a new building to be constructed at 80 Canal Street, an adjacent lot, to the roof deck.
We’ve posted some screen grabs from the CB3 presentation, as well as the full document submitted by Ron Castellano, the architect handling the project.
This is WAY too cool!!
