Police have arrested a teenage suspect in connection with an attempted rape in Upper Manhattan as well as a string of attacks on women citywide, including one incident on the Lower East Side.
15-year-old Kalief Jackson of Brooklyn was taken into custody and charged with attempted rape, sexual abuse, robbery and burglary. According to investigators, Jackson attacked a 34-year old victim in a building on East 116th Street on Sunday. She broke free and he fled, they said. Jackson is accused in at least seven incidents throughout Manhattan during the past week.
According to DNA Info, one attack happened on Grand Street last Friday. Police say Jackson followed a 28-year old woman into a building at about 7 p.m. Inside a stairwell, he claimed to have a gun and demanded money. The woman gave him $4 and he “allegedly touched her inappropriately” and forced the woman to reciprocate.
