We’re about to find out what the future holds for three beloved Ludlow Street hangouts. Community Board 3’s October liquor license agenda offers several clues.
First off, Artichoke Pizza, the popular chainlet that started on East 14th Street, is applying for a full bar at 108 Stanton St. Since 1984, it’s been home to El Sombrero, a place that’s been on the ropes for a long time. Second, a new bar appears to be coming to 127 Ludlow, where Motor City kept it real for 17 years before closing this past summer. Same goes for another legendary spot that succumbed to high rents in the past few months, the Max Fish space at 178 Ludlow St. In both cases, the agenda does not indicate any useful information about the applicants; we’ll have to wait for the applications to be posted online.
There are other items of interest on the docket. A company going by the name “Alegre Orchard LLC” is gunning for the former Orchard House location at 146 Orchard St. Another venture, unnamed at this point, wants to take over the Local 269 space at 269 East Houston. A new bar appears to be in the works at 151 Rivington. And Yunnan Kitchen, at 79 Clinton St., hopes to upgrade from a beer/wine permit to a full bar. Finally, there’s confirmation that Russ & Daughters will go before the CB3 committee next month to request a full bar for a new cafe they plan to open at 127 Orchard St. They’re already collecting petition signatures at the shop, located at 179 East Houston.
