Here are some upcoming events that are on our radar:

  • Museum at Eldridge Street hosts a book talk and signing with acclaimed author Daniel Schulman for his new book, The Monday Kings, on Wednesday, February 7th at 6pm. Focusing on Jewish immigrants who transformed Wall Street, you can “learn about the incredible saga of the German-Jewish immigrants—with now familiar names like Goldman and Sachs, Kuhn and Loeb, Warburg and Schiff, Lehman and Seligman—who profoundly influenced the rise of modern finance and shaped modern America.”
  • WHITE WAVE Dance (photo above) presents the 8th Annual SoloDuo Dance Festival February 8th and 9th at Dixon Place. 30 dancemakers from the New York Metro area and across the country are featured this year, as well as international dancers from Korea, Japan and Germany.
  • Kicking off Year 3 on the LES, Hannah Traore Gallery opens the new show, “Chella Man: It Doesn’t Have To Make Sense,” on February 8th, an exhibition of paintings, sketchbook drawings, and thoughts by artist and author @chellaman, made from 2014 to the present. *Traore will be our first guest on the upcoming Season 2 of The Lo-Down Culture Cast.
  • Metrograph celebrates James Baldwin and “his vast impact on cinema with adaptations of Baldwin’s literary works and recently restored shorts featuring the author himself with “Baldwin, From Page to Screen,” beginning February 14th.
  • Knowledge of Wounds, the collaborative curatorial practice of S.J Norman (Wiradjuri) and Joseph M. Pierce (Cherokee Nation), brings another iteration of their Indigenous-led, autonomous gathering space to our theaters. This year KoW presents a solo, improvisational noise performance by composer Raven Chacon (Diné), followed by a conversation with scholar and sound artist Hayden Ryan (Yuin). (Feb 15 | 7pm)
