Two buildings on Clinton Street, just above Delancey, have changed hands. City records show 86 Clinton St., a tenement with 18 residential units and four commercial spaces, sold for $4.5 million. The adjacent property, a three story mixed-use building, went for $3.4 million. Both properties were formerly owned by the estate of William Gottlieb, which controlled vast amounts of New York City real estate but has been selling off its holdings in recent years. The buildings were transferred to limited liability companies with the same 5th Avenue address. The deals were brokered by Misrahi Realty.
I always worry about what happens to the tenants when this happens. Hopefully the renters in this 18 unit building will not suffer as legions have have when the new landlord takes over and wants to quickly demolish and build condos.
