No, your eyes were not deceiving you. There really was a competitive race being run through the streets of the Lower East Side (and a few Brooklyn neighborhoods) this past Thursday. The Orchard Street Runners pulled off the first unsanctioned Midnight Half Marathon, and more than 70 runners took part. OSR founder and co-organizer Joe DiNoto told us the race was “flawless.” DiNoto organized the race with David Trimble, who created the Red Hook Crit, which is an unsanctioned bike race and run in Brooklyn. DiNoto ran the first 4.5 miles to Red Hook and said, “it functioned perfectly, people taking different routes, converging at times…and some getting lost.” The after-party took place at Chrystie 141.
