Here’s an update on this morning’s fire at Masaryk Towers. First of all, GammaBlog has video of the flames shooting out of the windows shortly after the blaze broke out today. Also, the Red Cross is on the scene, helping people displaced by the fire. It looks like four apartments were destroyed.
The parent association at NEST-M (the public school adjacent to Masaryk) reports that all after-school activities have been canceled so that fire victims can be accommodated in the school.
The Fire Department says one resident was treated for smoke inhalation. Four firefighters suffered minor injuries. Investigators are still looking into what caused the blaze.
I’m curious how the fire jumped floors, if it indeed did do that. Maybe flames reached curtains above? Scary for high rise residents.
A small detail, but Nest is K-12, not just middle school.
