Fire Breaks Out at 41 Ludlow

Must Read

DNA Info reports: a fire erupted this morning at 41 Ludlow Street, a small building between Hester and Grand. The fire apparently started in the the kitchen of the top floor apartment in the five story building, around 7:30 a.m.  It doesn’t look like anyone was hurt.  The Red Cross’s twitter feed indicates six residents are receiving assistance finding temporary housing.  There are two businesses on the ground floor of 41 Ludlow: an electrical supply shop and a company that makes signs.

  1. I awoke this morning to the smell of fire (around 6:50 am) and saw firemen inside the apartment on fire to break out windows, and on the roof. There was quite a bit of smoke billowing from the red-doored stairway on the roof. Unfortunately, I was too tired then to take pictures, but here are some pictures from the back window of my Orchard Street apartment.

  2. Does anyone have any information on how to make donations to these families? They are almost certainly uninsured, and have lost everything.
