To kick off the Year of the Rabbit, there was a colorful (and loud!) celebration in Sara D. Roosevelt Park today. The Chinese Lunar New Year Firecracker Festival attracted a big crowd and a lot of local dignitaries. The Better Chinatown Society sponsored today’s event and is coordinating Sunday’s New Year parade through the streets of Chinatown. City Councilmember Margaret Chin and State Senator Daniel Squadron attended today’s celebration. Judy Rapfogel, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s chief of staff, presented organizers with a state proclamation.See more video and several photos after the jump.
