Local TV reports confirm what we indicated earlier — the roof of 240 East Houston was undergoing renovations. There’s speculation on firefighter message boards tonight that air conditioners running at full tilt, in the middle of a heat wave, could also have been a factor.
Incidentally, 240 East Houston was converted into a condo building in 1987. A recent listing on Street Easy advertised a 1400 square foot apartment for $1,795,000. The description says the apartment redefines “a roof over your head.” No doubt.
