Silver Announces Chinatown Street Repaving Plan

This just in from State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver:

Assemblyman Sheldon Silver announced today that several streets in the heart of Chinatown that have been of concern to the community will be repaved. Silver reached out to the Department of Transportation after hearing complaints from constituents about poor conditions on the streets that created potential hazards. The DOT was quick to respond and did a temporary repaving in the spring. The current work will begin tonight and the repaving should be done within the next two weeks. “I am very pleased that we are able to get these streets repaved and into better condition for the residents, business owners and shoppers in Chinatown,” Silver said. “Resurfaced streets are safer, more convenient and improve the overall quality of life in our community.” The three major Chinatown streets that will be repaved are:

  • Elizabeth Street from Bayard to Canal streets
  • Bayard Street from Baxter Street to St. James Street/Bowery·
  • Division Street from Canal Street to Bowery
