The New Museum announced today that its 60,000 sq ft building expansion, at Bowery and Prince St., will open to the public on March 21, 2026. They also announced free admission for that weekend. The flagship space at 235 Bowery has been closed for the renovation and expansion since March of 2024.
The new addition essentially doubles the space of the museum, creating a 120,000 sq ft building on the Bowery, and promises to offer more galleries, artists’ residency studios, and a full-service, vegetable-forward restaurant.
The inaugural exhibition, New Humans: Memories of the Future, will be set in the entirety of the expanded museum. The show will feature works by over 200 artists, writers, scientists, architects, and filmmakers “to explore how dramatic technological and societal changes have spurred new conceptions of what it means to be ‘human’.”
Free Family Days will continue to take place the first Sunday of every month with art-making activities and story time.
Registration for free opening weekend tickets will go live sometime in February.
