Starting Monday (September 8), The East River Park running track will close for reconstruction, as well as the entire northern section of the park above East Houston Street. Meanwhile, the new pedestrian bridge connecting Corlears Hook Park to East River Park opened on Friday, along with the new amphitheater, seating areas and additional tennis courts. It’s all part of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Project.
As you can see from the advisory, the closure of the northern portion of the park includes the East 6th Street bridge and the Houston Street overpass.

During construction, the Corlears Hook flagpole was inaccessible. It’s now open. And NYC ferry passengers have a more pleasant route into Corlears Hook Park. For many months, they’ve had to trudge up the temporary ramp from the ferry dock to the park.

East River Park has been raised 8-10 feet to help protect vulnerable Lower East Side buildings from future storms. Sections of the southern end of the park opened on Memorial Day weekend. But now a continuous stretch north of the ferry dock is accessible for the first time since construction got underway in late 2021. Two ballfields and the new Delancey Street bridge opened in the fall of 2024. The complete $1.45 billion project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
