Zensushi Omakase Opens on Eldridge Street

Must Read

This story is by writer, designer, and long time Lower East Sider, Lori Greenberg:

A group of us recently stopped by the opening night of Zensushi Omakase, an intimate and lovely new restaurant on Eldridge Street. Chinese-born Chef Jason has worked at high end sushi restaurants in NYC for over 15 years, including the Michelin starred Sushi Nakazawka, and Nobu.

We got a warm welcome from Jason, along with his staffer Jeff and hostess Jennifer, who took good care of our group on a cold, snowy night.

Zensushi Omakase specializes in seasonal ingredients, and high-quality fishes from Japan (along with a few other markets around the world).

Some of the omakase selection included King Salmon, bluefin tuna with truffles, miso black cod, and A5 Wagu beef. We also tasted a Japanese version of sauerkraut (which was outstanding), and the best fresh ginger we have ever had.

We enjoyed watching Jeff prepare each course, and particularly admired his ability with a small blowtorch, which gave the fish a wonderful, melt-in-your-mouth, lightly grilled flavor.

Their new restaurant offers an $89 14-course omakase menu. Located at 231 Eldridge St, between Houston and Stanton Streets.

Their hours are fluctuating a bit but you can make a reservation here.
