“Dead Man Down” Shooting on Lower East Side This Week

Must Read

Don’t be alarmed if you see someone who looks strikingly similar to Collin Farrell with a big gun on the Lower East Side this week.  Dead Man Down, which also stars Noomi Rapace (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Terrence Howard and Dominic Cooper, will be shooting on Grand, Essex and Suffolk streets Monday and Tuesday.

In the film, Farrell is the right-hand man to an underground crime lord.  He’s seduced and blackmailed by a crime victim, Rapace, seeking revenge.  The movie is directed by Niels Arden Oplev, who was behind the Swedish version of “Dragon/Tattoo.” The film is set for release next spring.

Signs went up throughout the neighborhood last week advising residents to find alternate parking beginning Sunday night. Here are the streets affected: Grand Street (both sides between Norfolk and Pitt), Essex Street (both sides between Grand and Hester) and Suffolk Street (west side between Broome and Grand).

  1. I am happy to have a film shooting in the hood, but I sure wish they wouldn’t tape the signs to the trees.

  2. Dumb  question, maybe. Is the film producer benefitting the neighborhood in any way, financially?Compensating residents and businesses for nuisance and inconvenience undergone;leaving
the location improved in any way?Just saying….
