Pedestrian Killed Near Bowery Mission; Driver Arrested After Fleeing

A reader sent along this photo showing the aftermath of a traffic accident on the Bowery last night near the Bowery Mission. Police say a pedestrian was killed by the 24-year-old driver of a BMW sedan. The driver did not stop after striking the victim, but continued moving on the Bowery for some distance and hit a fire hydrant at Stanton Street.  Witnesses say he then got out of the car and fled before police caught up with him.  No word yet on charges. UPDATED 7:55 a.m. The name of the driver is Danny Lin. Police say he was arrested  for fleeing the scene. Charges are still being determined. The victim was a familiar presence in the area as a resident of the Bowery Mission. He was identified as 57-year-old Robert Perry.
