Two Bridges, Hamilton Madison House Leader Frank Modica Dies at 81

Frank Modica, board chairman of the Two Bridges Neighborhood Council, died Wednesday at the age of 81.

The longtime Lower East Side community leader served as executive director from 1976-2010 of Hamilton Madison House, one of the neighborhood’s oldest social service organizations.  He also served on the boards of United Neighborhood Centers of America and the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers.  Modica was on the board of Two Bridges since 1977 and was a central figure in the organization’s efforts to build thousands of affordable apartments along the East River waterfront.

He was born Dec.11, 1931 in Brooklyn and ordained as a Marianist priest in 1965.  Modica is survived by his wife, Kathleen of White Plains; son, Sean (Allegra) Modica of New York City. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Mario.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Maher Modica of White Plains, N.Y. and by his loving son, Sean (Allegra) Modica of NYC. Predeceased by his three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Mario.
