The 9800 square foot restaurant has been under construction for many months.  But in the last several days the plywood came down, revealing the new facade of 265-267 Bowery, once the home of Sammy’s Bowery Follies, a popular 1940’s cabaret.  The restaurant is the first Paulaner micro-brewery in this country; the renowned German beer producer plans to open up many for locations in the United States.

As you may recall, the owner of Paulaner New York, Rudy Tauscher, had quite a time with local residents and Community Board 3 before securing a liquor license. According to Morali Architects, which specializes in restoration projects, the finishing touches will take a few more days; an early September opening is planned.  A few more details from a press release that was distributed earlier in the month:

Authentic Paulaner beers brewed on-site will be served with contemporary, artisanal cuisine reflecting the flavors of Bavaria. Copper and steel brewing tanks are showcased in the center of the 9,800 square foot industrial-style space designed by New York based Morali Architects. The 240-seat space features exposed brick walls, 14-foot ceilings and design elements celebrating Paulaner’s Bavarian heritage and the Bowery’s rich eclectic history as Manhattan’s oldest thoroughfare. The lower level will feature a special event space – Sammy’s Bowery Follies Room – seating up to 50 guests for private events.
