In the news this past week:

–Mount Sinai has announced it is closing Beth Israel Hospital. A spokesperson said the hospital is only operating at 20% capacity and has lost hundreds of millions. [CBS New York]

–Coss Marte plans to open ‘Con Bud’ at 85 Delancey and “put down a $420,000 deposit on a 10-year lease in the building and is on the hook for $38,000 a month in rent starting Oct. 1… But he is now one of hundreds of entrepreneurs statewide whose plans have been put on hold indefinitely…” [WNYC]

–The City Council has approved an e-bike trade-in program, a safety measure meant to prevent tragedies like the fire that killed four residents in Chinatown earlier this year. [ABC7]

–Contra, the highly regarded tasting menu restaurant on Orchard Street, will be closing next month. “After 10 amazing, crazy, beautiful years of @contrany the time has come to give this beautiful beast a break,” owners Fabián von Hauske-Valtierra and Jeremiah Stone announced. They’re planning to eventually turn the space into something else. Wildair, the more casual spinoff of Contra, willl remain open. [Eater]

–The Feast of San Gennaro is back in Little Italy. For community leader John “Fratta and many others, the Feast is a homecoming during its 11 day-run and even in the days leading up to it. Many of the vendors and attendees grew up in Little Italy and have since moved across the tristate area.” [Gothamist]

–Archivists at the NYC Department of Records recently uncovered the original plans for the Loew’s Canal Street Theater. [NYC Archives]

–The recent gallery crawl on the Lower East Side in conjunction with Armory Week proved to be, “a joyous, free experience to see works pushing the boundaries of contemporary art and get(ting) sloshed chatting up the artists who created them.” [Hyperallergic]
