Neighborhood news in the past week:

–The city has made a deal with a developer to take over and renovate the Chinatown mall under the Manhattan Bridge. The plan calls for re-establishing a large restaurant in the building. It’s expected to seat up to 800. [The City]

–An 11-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog inside the family apartment at the Smith Houses. [NBC New York]

–Community Board 3’s September meeting agendas; highlights include a presentation on the reopening of the Catherine Street Shelter. [CB3]

–The corner bodega “has become a stage for… a new wave of freewheeling, freestyling chefs.” Take Don Juan, the bodega on Forsyth Street, which seems to have been transformed into a pop-up food destination with, “tostones smash burgers from 7th Street Burger and lemongrass ice cream from Caffè Panna” on the menu.
