–They know it is now inevitable, but opponents of the new Chinatown jail continue to worry that, “prolonged construction could spell disaster for a neighborhood already in dire straits.” [The Guardian]

–The city is failing to comply with a new law which requires it to detail NYCHA housing code violations in its online portal. Local Assemblyman Harvey Epstein says, “It has been a problem for NYCHA tenants for decades to get repairs done and hold NYCHA accountable in court… They should be held to the same if not higher standard than every other landlord in New York City.” [The City]

–Pearl River Mart is, “the surprising site of one of the most exciting shows on view right now,” the exhibition “Just Between Us: From the Archives of Arlan Huang.”  [Artnews]

–Helen Rosner asks the question, “Is Scarr’s the best pizza in New York?,” before explaining in many words that this is an unanswerable question. She does submit, however that, “any list of great pizza that leaves off Scarr’s shouldn’t be trusted.” [The New Yorker]

–A Flatbush institution, Allan’s Bakery, known as, “a one-stop shop for Caribbean staples,” is coming to the Lower East Side. [Eater]

–The Times lists Tigre, a new cocktail lounge at 105 Rivington St., from the team behind Williamsburg’s Maison Premiere, as one of the best new places to drink this fall in NYC. [The New York Times]

–A profile of Kehila Kedosha Janina on Broome Street, the only Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. [Forward]
