Teenager Shot and Killed Friday Night on Delancey Street

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed last night at the bustling corner of Delancey and Suffolk streets.

According to news reports, the gunman walked up to the victim, who was standing in a large group, and opened fire. Witnesses heard five or six gunshots. When police arrived, the teenager was found lying in the street. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was declared dead. There was also a second shooting victim, a 24-year-old man, who made his way to Beth Israel for treatment. He was shot in the leg.

The shootings happened at around 8:30 p.m. in front of the Essex Crossing condos and just a block away from the Essex Market and the Regal movie theaters. A lot of people were in the area on a mild fall Friday evening.

Police have not released the names of the victims and they have not announced any arrests as the investigation continues.

UPDATE 10/17/21: The teenager killed in Friday night’s shooting has been identified as Isaiah Levine. According to NY1, he was affiliated with a gang and had just returned from serving time in juvennile detention.
