As we all know, there’s a crazy amount of construction happening on the Lower East Side, and all over New York City. A new interactive map from the Department of Buildings tracks the biggest projects in real time.
The Active Major Construction Map shows all permits issued by DOB, both new projects and alterations. When we checked this afternoon, there were 7,437 active permits citywide totaling more than 197 million square feet.
Using the map, you can look at several daily “top 10” lists. The ninth biggest ongoing project is One Manhattan Square, the locally-loathed mega-tower going up at 250 South St. It clocks in with 1.26 million square feet. It’s also the fourth tallest tower going up in New York at the moment. It has the sixth most dwelling units (815).
