It’s looking like a nice day on Sunday for this year’s version of the Egg Rolls, Egg Creams and Empanadas Festival.
The annual event from the Museum at Eldridge Street includes food, performances, activities for the kids and tours of the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue.
The festival, which was first held about 20 years ago, is meant to be a celebration of the Lower East Side’s diverse cultures. There will be Chinese opera and folk performances, as well as klezmer, cantorial, and Puerto Rican folk music. Expect demos from Hebrew and Chinese scribes and a Puerto Rican mask maker. This year you can count on performances by klezmer virtuoso Zisl Slepovitch and Litvakus, the Chinatown Senior Center Orchestra, EastRiver Ensemble and Cantor Eric Freeman.
There will also be workshops on braiding challah bread, rolling dumplings and making empanadas. There are sure to be some intense games of mah jongg,. And, of course, you can down as many egg creams and egg rolls as your heart desires.
The festival is free. It takes place from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday on Eldridge Street, at Canal Street.
