Davelle, a Japanese-style cafe, recently opened in the old Soy space at 102 Norfolk St.
It’s run by Yudai Kanayama of Izakaya on East Sixth Street, along with several partners. Kanayama also has a spot in the Canal Street Market.
Eater took a look at the menu the other day. Davelle is a tranquil, fashionable spot patterned after traditional coffee shops known as kissaten in Tokyo. There’s pour-over coffee in the morning, rice curries and fruit sandwiches on toast for lunch and more extensive offerings in the evening. At dinnertime, the focus is on several different varieties of oden, a light Japanese stew in a dashi broth.
Back in January, the owners went through Community Board 3 for a wine license, but they’re not serving alcohol just yet. Davelle is open 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m.
