Robbery Suspect Accused of Stealing Jewelry, Dousing Orchard Street Merchant With Lighter Fluid

Police took a suspect into custody on Saturday, who allegedly robbed the Orchard Street jewelry store, Yaf Sparkle, and doused a merchant with lighter fluid.

According to cops, 38-year-old Kevin Curry walked inside the shop at around 3 p.m. A woman behind the counter was showing him a piece of jewelry when Curry allegedly doused her with lighter fluid while holding a cigarette lighter. He reportedly grabbed the jewelry, worth around $22,000, and ran out of the store, but people in the area ran after him. Cops made an arrest and recovered the jewelry on Rivington Street, according to the Daily News.

Curry, who lives in Brooklyn, has been charged with robbery. Channel 7 reported that he has a lengthy criminal record.
