Coming up later this month, members of the Lower East Side community will gather to remember Al Orensanz, the longtime director of the Angel Orensanz Center.

During the summer, he died at the age of 74. The funeral took place July 29. But this event will be an opportunity for the local community to celebrate the life of a beloved friend of the LES. Over the years, Orensanz played an instrumental role in the preservation of the historic Anshe Chesed Synagogue. The center became an essential community resource and valued cultural institution.

A “Memorial to Al Orensanz: The Conversation Continues” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, 6-8 p.m. at the Orensanz Center, 172 Norfolk St. The invitation states, “We believe that a conversation with Al Orensanz is a continuing experience, one which exemplifies his deep belief that the past and present are always in dialogue.”

The organizers are asking that you RSVP, either on Eventbrite or Facebook.
